Biography

Laetitia was born on 25 day [parish register mutilated] 1657 at Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County, Virginia Colony.[1] She was a daughter of Henry Corbin and Alice Eltonhead.[1] The Corbins owned several plantations, in both Westmoreland and Middlesex Counties, but their chief residence, Buckingham, was at Middlesex County on the south side of the Rappahannock River (p 375).[1] Another of his large estates was Corbin Hall, between the Rappahannock and Grange Creek, was also in Middlesex County. Middlesex was the county where the family attended Christ Church, baptized their children, the county Henry Corbin (d Jan 8, 1675) filed his will.[1]

On the plantation at Westmoreland County, Peckatone, Henry Corbin had a banqueting house built with his friends, Thomas Gerrard, J. Lee, and Isaac Allerton (p 375).[1] This is supposed to have been built expressly for the wedding of Letitia and Richard, but was certainly used for many other occasions as well.

The inscription on Richard and Laetitia's tomb stone is written in Latin, and translated, it reads: "Here lieth the body of Richard Lee, Esq., born in Virginia, son of Richard Lee, Gentleman, descended of an ancient family of Merton-Regis, in Shropshire. While he exercised the office of magistrate he was a zealous promoter of the public good. He was very skillful in the Greek and Latin languages and other parts of polite learning. He quietly resigned his soul to God, whom he always devoutly worshiped, on the 12th day of March, in the year 1714, in the 68th year of his age. Near by interred the body of Laetitia, his faithful wife, daughter of Henry Corbyn, Gentleman. A most affectionate mother, she was also distinguished by piety toward God, charity to the poor, and kindness to all. She died on the 6th day of October, 1706, in the 49th year of her age."

Lee-3272 and Corbin-24 appear to represent the same person because: Same information, only different numbers

Corbin-24 and Lee-3272 do not represent the same person because: These two profiles have different last names at birth, different parents, different birth and death dates, different places. Nothing suggests they are the same person.

Note: The plaque says that she was born in England in 1657, which does not seem possible with her mother born in America and her father a 1654 immigrant. Also, Richardson has her parents marriage as "before April 5, 1658", which would suggest that Lettice was born in 1658 or later. She is named in Henry's will dated 25 July 1675 as not yet being 21 or married.
