Biography

It is Catherine Stickley Funk's brother, Jacob Stickley who signs son Samuel's marriage bond. "Know all men by these presents that we, Samuel Funk and Jacob Stickley, are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency, Beverley Esq., Governor of the Commonwealth ofVA and his successors in thefinalsum of £50 current money to be paid to the said Governor or his successor we bind our selves, our heirs and our assigns severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 7th day of July, 1791. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage suddenly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Samuel Funk and Elizabeth Cordell, spinster. Now, if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage and no damage (anyone?) thereby then the above obligation to be void ....in full force and virtue." Signed and Sealed in the presents of —Lee. Signed: Samuel Funk and Jacob Stickley. (from: “Funks of Morgan and Scott Counties IL” Ellie F. Funk and Mrs. Jade B. Funk) and (from: Shenandoah Co.
