Medieval Lands notes that Richard had a son Walter de Cornwall (d. 1313) who was not the son of Joan Valletort but rather by his second mistress, and her name is not known. [4]

"RICHARD de Cornwall, illegitimate son of RICHARD Earl of Cornwall & his mistress Jeanne de Valletort (-after 1280). The primary source which confirms his parentage has not been identified. He was granted the manor of Thunnock, Lincolnshire in 1280 by his half-brother Edmund Earl of Cornwall. m JOAN St Owen, daughter of JOHN Lord St Owen & his wife ---". [5]

"Joan FitzAlan b. circa 1267, d. after 10 October 1321

Father Sir John FitzAlan, Chief Butler of England b. May 1223, d. c 10 Nov 1267
Mother Maud de Boteler b. c 1225, d. 27 Nov 1283
  • Joan FitzAlan Called Joan FitzOwen, daughter of John, Lord FitzOwen by Wallop, p. 230. This is probably incorrect.2 She was born circa 1267. She married Sir Richard Cornwall, Steward of Knaresborough, son of Sir Richard, Earl of Cornwall, King of the Romans, Comte de Poitou and Joan de Vautort (Valletort), circa 1279 at of Cornwall, England."[6]

I have added research notes that confirm that Joan St. Owen, AKA, Joan FitzAlan married Sir Richard Cornwall, (half) brother to Walter Cornwall.

Are there any objections to removing Joan as the spouse of Walter?

posted by Kenneth Shelton
Hi, Kenneth, Joan is still attached as mother of Walter's daughter, Joan. Could you fix that? Thanks!

Joan Fitzalan should be removed; she was his brother Richard's wife.
