Sir Thomas Cornwall was born in 1468 and died in 1537.[1]
He was the son of Sir Edmund Cornwall and Margaret Hoorde.
He married Anne Corbet, daughter of Sir Richard Corbet by 1499. They had three daughters.
He succeeded to the title of 8th Baron of Burford, Shropshire [feudal barony] in 1489
He was invested as a Knight on June 17, 1497. and made a knight banneret in 1513.[2]
He held the office of Sheriff of Shropshire and Herefordshire.
The Cornwalls of Burford was the younger branch of an ancient family which traced its descent from an illegitimate son of Richard, Earl of Cornwall, brother of Henry III. It was possibly their sense of this distinguished ancestry which caused them to style themselves Barons of Burford, although none of their line had ever been summoned to Parliament. They owned extensive property in Devon, Herefordshire, Shropshire and the midlands. In 1505 this substantial patrimony was enlarged by the addition of lands in Herefordshire inherited by Sir Thomas Cornwall from Isabel, dowager Countess of Devon.[3]
