Jacob Cornwell was a prominent shipbuilder and merchant in Digby Neck, Nova Scotia. He married Hannah Weld, in February 1777 in Durham, Middlesex, Connecticut
Their son, Jacob Cornwell Jr., emigrated with them as Loyalists, in 1783, to New Edinbugh, Nova Scotia, and from thence to Waterford, Digy Neck, Nova Scotia in 1789.
