Research Notes

Did Adam Sherrill marry a Corzine?

Extensive Sherrill research in primary records does not support Adam Sherrill marrying a Corzine. His wife Elizabeth's surname remains unknown at this date, even though some are stating she was Elizabeth Corzine, daughter of John Corzine & his wife Elizabeth of Cecil County, Maryland. [2]

We know Adam Sr's wife's name was Elizabeth from land and court records of the time period. But there is no record known to me or to the other major Sherrill researchers that names Adam's wife as Elizabeth Corzine. [2]

Did John Corzine of Maryland have a daughter Elizabeth?

This John Corzine does not list any daughters named Elizabeth in his will in 1707. I believe researchers after 1985, or earlier, have confused Adam Sherrill "Jr" with his father Adam (Sr). Adam "Jr's" wife was Sine "Corzine." [2]

John Corzine's wife was Elizabeth, and after John's death in 1707, she remarried but it was NOT to Adam Sherrill. [Patricia Ward, author of "Uriah Sherrill and His Descendants" published in May 2012, copy in the Family History Library, Salt Lake City.] [2]

Elizabeth may be the Elizabeth Corzine born in Cecil Co., Maryland and married to a Perkins briefly (in Cecil Co., Maryland - 1721) before marrying Adam Sherril, in Catawha Co., North Carolina in 1722.[2]

Was the daughter Elizabeth orphaned?

Elizabeth is not proven to be one of the children orphaned. There were two children orphaned, a boy, John, and a girl at the death of Elizabeth Corzine, widow of John, in 1721. Elizabeth is believed be the girl.) [1]
