Elizabeth Ellen Custer was born on April 11, 1850, in Auglaize Township, Allen, Ohio, to Jacob Leatherman Custer and Mary Melissa Lane. She married William Valentine on September 23, 1869, in Lowell, Kent, Michigan. She died on June 11, 1899, in Day Township, Montcalm, Michigan, at the age of 49, and was buried in McBride, Day Township, Montcalm, Michigan, United States.
