Biography

Currently working on sources other than Sons of Rev. War applications. There does seem to be some confusion on Shephard's parents. Ie. is his father West Daniel and Rebecca Lanier or John West Daniel and Rebecca McPavon.

NB: This Shepherd Daniel (1792-1844) should not be confused with his uncle, Shepherd Daniel (1774-1844), who supposedly also died in 1844 in Iredell Co, NC. There is perhaps some confusion in the date of death of the uncle. The U. S. Federal Census for 1820, 1830, and 1840 are unclear as to which Shepherd Daniel is meant inasmuch as the census reports for 1820-1840 do not name the family members.

Son of John West Daniel (1792-1814) and Rebecca McPavon (1770-1800).

DOB also given as 1790, and 1796.

Shepherd Daniel married Mary Moss (1800-1885) in 1820 (before 7 Aug) in VA. They had nine children: William Moss (1821-1893); Peggy (Margaret?) (1825-?); Pinckney O. (1825-1919); Jane (1829-?); Rebecca (1834-?); Shepherd Lee (1836-1918); Nancy (1838-?); Martha C. (1840-1904); James Thomas (1842-?).

Believed to have been buried in Moss Chapel Cemetery, Olin, Iredell Co, NC. No marker.
