Bill Dunkley (Dunkley-71) and N Fanning (Fanning-475) are co-operating on the clean up of this profile. They have adopted a number of orphaned profiles in order to facilitate this process. They are direct descendants of either the Davy Family or the Klein Family. Both are pre-1700 certified and Bill is a member of the NNS group.

The variations in spelling of the last name in the pre-1700 profiles (parents are PPP'd) complicates the procedure. 1700 seems to be the point at which the various branches determine their spelling preference. We are therefore using the spelling that is most prevalent for each sibling's descendants.

Other PM's will be consulted of course and if anyone has proof of LNAB, before or after we clean up this profile, please feel free to contact one of us. We will also inform the NNS if it appears to conflict with Ancestors of these profiles, even though they are Post-1700.

Thanks from both.

Note: Families often found themselves on opposite sides of the conflict during the American Revolution. The Davy/Davids/Davis family was a typical example. Of the 4 brothers with known children, 2 of them ( John & Peter) had Loyalist leanings & 2 others ( Thomas & Ludwig) had Patriot leanings.

Biography

On the 31st of May, 1724, Peter was Baptized in the Reformed Dutch Stone Arabia Lutheran Church in Schenectady, New York.

Parents were Thomas Davy and Catrin Klein. Witnesses were Pieter Hoogwater and Baasie Klein (maternal aunt).

Peter married Anna Maria Saltsman, daughter of George Saltsman and Margaret Klein [mother uncertain].

Well-researched background on Peter Davy and his children:

Peter spent his most of his life along the Mohawk River near where Little Falls, New York, is located today. During the American Revolution, he and most of his sons fought in the British army, and after the war was ended, they emigrated from New York to the British Province of Quebec, settling on lands that later became part of the Province of Ontario, Canada. They were known as United Empire Loyalists. Peter Davy was a private in the 2nd Battalion, King's Royal Rangers of New York and a British Loyalist.

In his petition for additional lands, 16 June 1790, Peter Davy identified himself as late a private in the 2nd Battalion Royal Yorkers' (KRRNY). Although he was not included in the muster roll of disbanded soldiers settled in Ernestown, 7 Oct 1784, Peter drew 500 acres for himself and his family consisting of a wife and seven children and by 1790 had made a good improvement on the land. He died on 09 Jul 1790 in the village of Bath, Ernestown, Lennox & Addington District, British Province of Quebec (became Upper Canada in 1791; Bath became a separate town in 1819). [1]

Timeline

1757: Militiamen in French & Indian War Before Revolution: Given the year, the Pitter Devie & John Devi recorded here could possibly refer to Peter & his older brother John.

1774: "Peter Davy" leased lots of Glen's Purchase Patent to James Delancey. [2]

1781: Possibly the "Peter Davis" whose 3 daughters were attacked at home. One daughter, stabbed 3 times and cut with a hatchet, was cared for by Dr. Johan Jost Petrie for several weeks after.[3]

1783: "The vilage [of Bath] was first settled in 1783, and among the first settlers were Mr. Davy[4] (progenitor of the family of the same name, resident in the vicinity of Bath and Napanee); James Johnston, a native of Ireland; Ebenezer Washburne, commissariat at that time; Matthias Rose;[5] Henry Finkle; William Fairfield; John Shibley; Robert Williams; and John George."[6]

Peter's 4 Loyalist sons, in birth order. All of them emigrated to what is today Ontario:

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
