Biography
Gronow was baptised on 9 February 1829 in Cadoxton-Juxta-Neath, Glamorganshire, Wales by parents John and Mary Morgan Davis. John was a Physician and the family lived in Bristol. [1]
In 1855 Gronow won a Victoria Cross medal for having led a spiking party on the attack on the Redas he went out several times under fire to rescue wounded men. [2]
Gronow Davis married Wilhelmina Anna Mary Reade in 1866 in Clifton, Bristol. Goronow was a Major in the Rotal Artillery based in Dover, Kent, his father John was a surgeon with the Royal Navy. Wilhelmina's father Henry Cooper Reade was a Surgeon Major. [3]
Gronow died on 18 October 1891 and is buried in Clifton, Bristol. [4]
