Biography

Philippe was the daughter of Sir Humphrey Audley and Elizabeth Courtnay, who married in March 1463/4 (dispensation dated 21 March).[1]

She married before 1494/5 Richard Hadley (d. Sept 1524), esq. of Powderham, Devonshire and Heathfield, Somersetshire.

Their son, James Hadley, was born 1494/5 and died 20 Feb 1537 leaving a will wherein he names his parents as Richard and Philippa Hadley and makes a donation on their behalf to Withycombe Church.

Research Notes

Estimated birth date: "born about 1470" is based on their parents' marriage 1463/4 and Richardson listing Philippe third of their three daughters, assuming one child every 2 years, the daughters' birth years can be reasonably guessed as 1465, 1467, and 1469 (Richardson lists sons and daughters separately; if their son John was born before Philippe, that pushes her birth year estimate to 1471). ~ Noland-165 13:42, 21 January 2018 (EST)

"Their [Philippe & Richard's] great-granddaughter, Margaret Hadley, and her husband, Thomas Luttrell, received a dispensation to marry, due to their relationship in the 3rd and 4th degrees. Both husband and spouse were descended from Elizabeth Courtenay, the former by her 1st husband, Sir James Luttrell, and the latter by her 2nd husband, Sir Humphrey Audley. The dispensation was issued by the Cardinal of St. Angelo, Papal Penitentiary, at St. Peter's, on 28 Nov 1558.[2]

I could not find an entry for her or her parents (Humphrey and Elizabeth) in Cawley's Medieval Lands (although I found the 1st Lord Audley) or in Darryl Lundy's database, thepeerage.com. ~ Noland-165 13:28, 21 January 2018 (EST)

I removed [Category:EuroAristo - Profiles that need work], but only the first paragraph of the biography has an inline source citation.
