Biography

Heloise, daughter of Alexandre and Constance Decuir (cousins) was born in Point Coupee Parish, Louisiana on or around 8 March 1806. (need citation)

She married Jean Ovide Barras in Point Coupee Parish on or around 23 June 1825 (need citation.)

In 1858, an announcement in their local paper spectacularly dissolved their marriage after a trial. "State of Louisiana trial results between Heloise Decuir, wife and Jean-Ovide Barra, husb. #1964 published in xxx by J. B. BLANCHARD, Dep Clk. Pointe Coupee on July 10, 1858. "This case having been taken up for trial and the plaintiff having proven her demand and the law and evidence being in favor of plaintiff and against defendent. It is therefore ordered adjudged and decreed that the community which hitherto existed between plaintiff and defendent be dissolved. . . . It is further ordered . . . that plaintiff Heloise Decuir have judgement against and recover from Jean Ovide Barra to provide TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND THIRTY ONE DOLLARS and SEVENTY THREE CENTS with legal interest. . . .
