George Dent was a Colonel in the Charles County Militia (1737). He was a member of the Lower House in Charles County (1719-1727). He went on to become a Magistrate Judge, and ultimately a Chief Justice of the Provincial Court of Maryland (1754). He also served as Sheriff of Charles County (1735-1738).[3]

To wife Anne Dent, 1/2 of lands and plantation whereon I now live, beginning at uppermost bound tree or post on the river side near Mr. Richard Thompson's house and down to River till It will Include the now dwelling house out houses, orchard and 50 foot tobacco house, by a line to be drawn east or easterly from the river side to the exterior bounds of my land by or near James Latimore's., and so as to exclude the dwelling house where my son George now lives; also following Negroes: James and Sue his wife, Tom and Kate his wife, Phill and Moll his wife, Carpenter and Kate his wife, Roger and Dick the son of Kate Carpenters wife; also 1/2 of personal estate.

To son George Dent, other half part of lands, Negroes: Old Dick, Boson, Charles and Caesar (having heretofore given him three others, vizt. Nasey, Phillis and Robin) with 1/2 of the cattle, hogs, horses and sheep.

To son John Dent. lands at Mattawoman called "Clarks Inheritance" and "Clarks Purchase," 500 a. each tract, which lands were lately made over to him by deed of gift from myself and wife. Also another tract. called "O'Dents Levels" adj the other lands, 280 a. and following Negroes: Dick at Mattawoman, Bob, Britannia, Will, Moll and Old Bess.

To dau Elizabeth., now the wife of Mr. Richard Harrison, I confirm the Negroes I gave to her In marriage, Sukier, Jack, and James, a boy. Also the reversion of the lands I purchased of Newman Tomkins (where Capt. Bates now lives) and after her decease to my heirs.

To my four daus, Anne Ireland, Sarah, Rebecca, and Letty Dent. lands at Mattawoman upper quarter.

To dau Sarah Dent, Negroes, Hannah, Solomon, and Dinah.

To dau Rebecca Dent, Negroes, Little Moll, Letty, and Nancy.

To daus Mary Alexander, Eleanor Blackiston, Margaret Greenfield (having been already provided for by me on their marriages), each a gold ring of 30 shillings value with this Inscription (In memory of George Dent).
