Biography

Hugo, 10th Lord des Marets, Lord of Farbus, died in 1429. His wife was Guillemette de Solomnes, of whom he had eleven children. Several of these children, males as well as females, entered ecclesiastical orders, and died unmarried. Two of his sons became founders of branches, namely:[1]

  1. Baldwin. He was the great-grandfather of Jean des Marets, who married Martha de Bernicourt, which last-named couple by the genealogists Le Vaillant and the Atteveld brothers wrongly were held to have been the parents of Jean des Marets (born 1518) and Jacques des Marets (born 1519).
  2. Reginald.

Research Notes

Uncertain Existence

This profile is based on text published in the second edition of The Demarest Family [1] which was copied from the first edition.[2] The medieval section of the first edition was by Louis P. De Boer, and was a translation which did not acknowledge its Dutch source in H. J. Koenen's Het Geslacht De Marez.[3] Koenen stated that the medieval genealogy was presented as "geheel voor rekening van Le Carpentier en pater Le Vaillant, daar we niet in de gelegenheid zijn hun betrouwbaarheid te controleeren" (entirely as communicated by [Jean-Baptiste] Le Carpentier and Father Le Vaillant, because we are not in a position to check their reliability). However, Jean-Baptiste Carpentier is now known to have produced fraudulent genealogies with forged 'proofs' and nothing he wrote can be taken as evidence unless corroborated by independent, original sources (see Carpentier Frauds). Unless these are found, this profile should be regarded as of Uncertain Existence. Millard-1402 20:30, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Since the ancestry tree that is listed as a source is not a public tree; I believe that this should disqualify it from being listed as a source
