David Dodde of the Egge was born circa 1483-4 (he was aged 22 in 21 Henry VII[1] [22 August 1505- 21 August 1506]).
David was probably born at Edge where his family had lived for centuries. Edge is a settlement located in the Parish of Malpas, in Broxton Hundred, Cheshire, England.[2]
David was the son of John Dodd of Egge, esq, and his wife, Emma Brereton, the daughter and heir of Humphrey Brereton,[3] third son of Bartholomew Brereton of Grafton.[1]
David married Katherine, the daughter of Nicholas Manley of Poulton[1] (Pulton[3]).
David and Katherine had many children:
Randull Dod of Edgge, esq, oldest son and heir, died 11 May, 18 Elizabeth, married 1) Anne, the daughter of Randle Brereton of Malpas, and 2) Elizabeth, the daughter and heir of Thomas Horton of Toternhoe, co Bedford, who survived Randull and was living a widow in 1581;[1]
John Dod, second son, died before 23 Elizabeth;[1]
David Dod, third son, buried at Malpas on 19 March 1589;[1]
Bartholimewe Dod of London, fourth son, a haberdasher, married Elizabeth, the daughter and coheir of George Dalton of London;[1]
Frauncis Dod of London, fifth son, a haberdasher, married Mary, the daughter and coheir of George Dalton of London;[1]
Roger Dod of Broxon, gent, sixth son, mentioned in records in 4 and 5 Philip and Mary;[1]
Philip Dod of London, seventh son, married Elizabeth, the daughter of John Van-Hole or Van Halte of Antwerpe;[1]
William Dod of Chester, eighth son, married Elizabeth, the daughter of William Hockenhull of Prenton;[1]
Elizabeth, who was married to George Bird[3] of Broxton;[1]
Anne, who was married to William Street[3] or Streley of Streley;[1]
Jane, who was married to Thomas Calcott[3] or Caldecote of Caldecote;[1]
Mary, who was married to John Grosvenor of Bellean Hill;[1]
Grace, who was married to John Moyle of Chester;[1]
David's father, John Dodd senior of Egge, esq, died in or before 21 Henry VII, when an Inquisition post mortem found that his son David, aged 22, was his heir.[1]
David Dodde of the Egge, esq, was living in 36 Henry VIII [1544-5].[1] He was not listed in "The Names of all and singular Knights, Esquires, Gentlemen & Freeholders in Com. Cestriae" published in 1580, so he was dead before 1579 when the information was gathered. Vrian Dodd of Edge, gent, (David's grandson,[3] Urian[1]) was on the list.[4]
