Biography

Dillingham Dodson was born 10th June 1779 in South Carolina. Dillingham was the son of Charles Dodson and Lucy Morgan.

Dillingham appears in the Allen County Newspaper April 29, 1820 advertisement about a stray black colt taken by Dillingham Dodson.

Dillingham obtained a land grant in Allen county, Kentucky on the 12th July 1823 for 100 acres on Johns creek.[1]

Dillingham appears in the 1800 Federal census in Pendleton County, South Carolina.[2] Dillingham's household appears as follows: 1 male under age 10; 1 male age 16 to 26; and 1 female age 16 to 45.

Dillingham appears in the 1810 Federal census in Warren County, Kentucky.[3] Dillingham's household appeared as follows: 2 males under age 10; 1 male age 10 to 16; 1 male age 26 to 45; 2 females under age 10; and 1 female age 26 to 45.

Dillingham appears in the 1820 Federal census in Allen County, Kentucky.[4] Dillingham's household appeared as follows: 1 male under age 10; 2 males age 16 to 25; 1 male age 26 to 44; 3 females under age 10; 2 females age 10 to 15; and 1 female age 26 to 44.

Dillingham appears in the 1830 Federal census in Allen County, Kentucky. Dillingham's household appears as follows: 1 male age 10 thru 14; 1 male age 20 thru 29; 1 male age 50 thru 59; 3 females age 15 thru 19; 1 female age 50 thru 59; and 1 male slave age 24 thru 35.[5]

Dillingham appears in the 1850 Federal census in Allen County, Kentucky. Dillingham's household appears as follows: Dillingham age 73; M. Dodson age 71; C. Oliver age 44; E. Oliver age 17; T.J. Oliver age 15; J.W. and Oliver age 14.[6]

Dillingham made his last will and testatment on the 21st January, 1857. Dillingham's will reads in part as follows: "I Dillingham Dodson of the county of Allen & State Kentucky being sick & weak in body but sound mind and disposing memory . . . I desire that all my estate both real and personel after my decease be sold and out of the money . .. there from all my first debts & funeral expenses paind of my estate. The remaining part of my estate to be equally divided between my children Joseph L. Dodson, Nancy Ragland, Surena Oliver, William dodson, Elizabeth Williams, Talitha Login, Armstead Dodson & my two Grandchildren Tighlman H. Dodson, Louisa F Wright . . . I appoint Joseph L. Dodson & Armstead Dodson as Guardians for Tighlman H. Dodson & Louisa F Wright until they become Twenty one years of age. I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons Joseph L Dodson & Armstid Dodson executors of this my last will and testament . . . In Testimony whereof I have here to set my hand and affixed my seal this the 21st day January in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty seven. [signed] Dillingham Dodson

. . . The last will and testament of Dillingham Dodson dec'd was fully proven at the May Term of said Court 1859 & ordered to be recorded which is accordingly done given under my hand the 9th May 1859. J.N. Fitzpatrick clk"[7]

Dillingham died on the 5th May 1859, in Allen County, Kentucky.
