Nimrod Dodson was born about 1800, in Abbeville County, South Carolina. Nimrod was the son of William Thomas Dodson and Sarah Ann Pyles.
Nimrod married sometime about 1825 (possibly in Fayette County, Alabama) Mary ("Polly") Stewart, the daughter of Reubin and Elizabeth Ann McConnell Stewart. [1]
Nimrod was living in Marion County, Alabama by 1826, when he patented 80 acres of land in Fayette County, Alabama on the 1st of February 1826, in the E 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of Section 26 Township 14 South Range 13 West. [2]
Nimrod filed the following land patents in Fayette County, Alabama: 2nd of July 1827 - 80.68 acres of land under Bureau of Land Management Document #2074; 1st of August 1839 - 40.03 acres of land under Bureau of Land Management Document #10295; 1st of August 1829 - 40.03 acres of land under Bureau of Land Management Document #11751; 1 September 1858 - 119.93 acres of land under Bureau of Land Management Document #25866. Nimrod appears in the 1850 Federal Census in Fayette County, Alabama, as head of household. Nimrod's household appears as follows: Nimrod, age 50, born S.C.; Mary, age 44, born TN; son Reuben, age 20, born Ala; daughter Jane, age 18, born Ala; son William age 15, born Ala; daughter Francis age 13, born Ala; son Charles age 11, born Ala; son James age 9, born Ala; and daughter Atalina (Adaline) age 4, born Ala. Nimrod appears as a slave owner in the 1850 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules with the following slaves: 1 Black female age 21; 1 Black male age 5; and 1 Black female age 2. [5]
Nimrod appears in the 1860 Federal Census in Fayette County, Alabama, as head of household. Nimrod's household appears as follows: Nimrod, age 63; Mary age 44 (NOTE, Mary's age did not change from the 1850 census); son Charles, age 19; son James, age 18; and daughter Adaline, age 13. [6]
Nimrod appears as a slave owner in the 1860 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedules with the following slaves: 1 Black female age 30; 1 Black female age 10; 1 Black female age 7; 1 Black female age 2; 1 Black female age 1; 1 Black male age 14; and 1 Black male age 9. [7]
Nimrod died in 1862 and was buried in the Old Pikeville Cemetery, Pikeville, Marion County, Alabama. [8]
