David Dodson was born sometime after 1740 possibly in Pittsylvania County Virginia. David was the son of George Dodson Sr and Margaret Dagood.

David is not found in the records of the North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia. However, it is known that David, was born after 1740, possibly in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. David was the son of George and Margaret Dodson as "The manuscript of Rev. Elias Dodson states that "Betty [daughter of Second Fork Thomas Dodson] married David Dodson, brother to Lazarus."[1]

David married Elizabeth "Betty" Dodson, daughter of Thomas "Second Fork" Dodson and Mary Neville sometime before 1771.

David was in Pittsylvania County, Virginia when he patented 440 acres of land on the 1st of March 1773.

David appears in the 1782 Continental census on page 42.[2]

David and Elizabeth sold 220 acres on 16th August 1794 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Moses Hanks.[3]

David and Elizabeth were the parents of the following known children: (1) Fortunatus Dodson born about 1771; (2) Ann Dodson born about 1775 and married David Puckett on the 28th November 1796 in Halifax County, Virginia; (3) Joseph Dodson born about 1777; (4) Absalom Dodson born about 1779; (5) Asa Dodson born about 28 May 1780 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia; (6) Abner Dodson born about 1783; (7) Elizabeth Dodson born about 1791 in Virginia and married Caleb Goad; and (8) David Dodson Jr. born about 1794.[4]

David was residing in Pulaski county as early as 1799 where he is mentioned in Pulaski Court Minutes. David later went to the Hawkins/Grainger county, TN area for a while and then went to Pulaski county, KY, where in 1807 he purchased land on Sinking Creek which he sold to Samuel McKee in 1808. By 1809 they were residing in Adair county, KY when he sold 49 acres on Pitman's Creek in Pulaski county to Asa Dodson. David then moved to Maury county, TN where David probably died before 1816.[5]

Research Notes

David Dodson, son of George Dodson was in Pittsylvania County, Virginia prior to 1780. Tax records in Culpepper County, Virginia show that David Dodson never owned or paid tax on property in that county. He was on the personal tax rolls until 1791. It is assumed he must have [left] around 1791.

Tammy, I am not a descendant of his, but there is a connection. However, I don't have any information on him. If you don't want to manage the profile, you should remove yourself through the 'privacy' tab. There are a ton of DNA descendants listed above-- I'm sure someone will take it and improve it.

My only concern would be how different the death dates and places are.If that could be sourced for merge? I am new to this and i am non related to him.i just felt sad that it was so much info and relatives listed by dna that it was orphaned.i adopted on source-a-thon weekend.

Dodson-4384 and Dodson-133 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents (although mothers need to be merged as well); same siblings, dates, and most of the places.
