Biography

Winifred Dodson was born about 1750 in Pittsylvania county, Virginia. Winifred was the daughter of Thomas Second Fork Dodson and Mary Neville. Winifred was also known as Winny Dodson.

Winifred married William Johnson. No marriage record has been located.

Winifred's husband, William Johnson, is listed in the deed made by his father-in-law, Thomas Dodson as follows: "Thomas Dodson to his children beqest'd 27th April 1811 To all whom these shall come greeting know ye that whereas by the death of my son William Dodson I hereby became heir at law to his good chattles and heriditaments as well real as personable and whereas my son Samuel Dodson hath administered on said estate at my special request and as soon as said estate can be duly brought forward in legal order it is my desire and earnest request that the said estate shall be disposed of as followeth . . . I then did I now think it my duty to bestow on the aforesaid children to wit WILLIAM JOHNSON, James Johnson Stephen Johnson Jesse Dodson and Samuel Dodson a compensation for their trouble and expence in my maintainance as mentioned in the aforesaid bond . . . I have hereunto set my seal on the twenty third day March eighteen hundred and eleven [signed] Thomas his X mark Dodson in the present of T W Canally, Calib Witt State of Tennessee Hawkins County } November Session 1811 Then this Deed of Gift was proven in open court by the oaths of T Mcanally & Calib Witt and was ordered to be registered let it be registered Richard Mitchell ClK"[1]
