William Thornton Dodson was born the 16th of January, 1796, in Halifax county, Virginia. William is the son of Caleb Dodson and Elizabeth Petty.
William married Sallie (Sally) Young, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth Ferrell Young, on the 28th of September, 1812, in Caswell county, North Carolina.[1]
William is named as a son of Caleb Dodson in Caleb's will. Caleb refers to William by this middle name "Thornton" as follows: "In the name of God Amen I Caleb Dodson Senr of the county of Halifax and state of Virginia . . . Item 9th I give to my two sons Timothy and Thornton Dodson all my perishable property after the payment of my debts that is not herein before bequeathed. . . . faithfully executed Given under my hand and seal this 23th day of May 1832 [signed] Caleb Dodson . . ."[2]
William died about 1832, in Davidson county, Tennessee.
