Biography

Flag of Virginia
George (Dobson) Dodson Jr. lived in Virginia.

George Dodson Jr. was born the 31st of October 1737 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond county, Virginia. George is the son of George Dodson, Sr and Margaret Dagord.[1]

George married Elizabeth R. (surname unknown). Elizabeth's name is known from the 1801 consent from George and Elizabeth for the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth R. Dodson to Thomas Chaney.[2]

George appears on the tax lists of Pittsylvania County, Virginia from 1782 through 1784, and in Henry County, Virginia in 1785 through 1790. George appears on the tax list in Patrick County, Virginia from 1791 through 1796, listed as George Dodson, Sr. In 1797 George returned to Pittsylvania County, Virginia.[2]

George made his last will and testament in 1816 and this will was presented for probate in 1825, thus indicating he died that year. The precise date may be July 18, 1825.[3]

Research Notes

Original Details:

Note: Below is about children of George RWS, not George. 1. Note: Move to children pages. [4]

says that Thomas and Jesse and Leonard migrated from Virginia to Kentucky in the latter part of the 18th century. Some of the sons were Thomas, Jesse, Elisha, George, John R, Rollo (or Raleigh), William, Joseph, James, Leonard, Jethro, Eli and Polly & Winnifred who died unmarried.
However, Thomas is said to be son of George, grandson of Jesse.

2. Note: From Culpeper County, Virginia, Thomas, Leonard and Robert Dodson moved over the mountains while Kentucky was still a part of the old Virginia. The title to the lands they bought in what is now Madison County was very soon contested, and from there Robert moved to what is now Warren County, Kentucky, where he reared a large family, while Thomas and Leonard Dodson came to what is now Wayne County, making settlement there while Kentucky was still an Indian battle ground. Leonard took up land in the community known as Cedar Hill. He had two sons, Eli and Stogdon, Eli moving to Missouri, while Stogdon went to Danville, Indiana, where his family became prominent.

Dodson-5290 and Dobson-3271 appear to represent the same person because: Both men have the year of birth and same year of death, and same parents. Dodson-5290 has no wife given and few sources. These are the same men and should be merged to eliminate duplicates.

Dodson-545 and Dobson-3271 appear to represent the same person because: Dobson instead of Dodson is an easy mistake to make. All of the indicators point to Leonard Dobson being the same person as Leonard Dodson.
