Birth: About 560 CE

Father: Erchenaud Von Schelde

Erchenaud was born about 525 CE in the Escaut (Scheldt) River valley, Picardie, Aisne, France, then called the Kingdom of Neustria. From this birth-place, some genealogies have arbitrarily assigned the surname: "von Schelde" ("of Scheldt") to the family. ^{[2] [3]}

Laetharius/Aega von Schelde was a Frankish nobleman; he is said to have had the title "Duke of Alsace," in Austrasia. He may have been born there or in neighboring Moselle (Lorraine).

Married: ca. 580: Gerberga De Franconia, b: 564 in Franconia, Bavaria, Germany

Note: Medieval Lands says that "The name of Aega's wife is not known." ^[1]

Child: Only one daughter, whose name is Unknown, has been attributed to Aega and Gerberga von Schelde. She was born in about 605 CE in the kingdom of Neustria.

Fredegar names "Ermenfredus" as the husband of "filiam Aegane", when recording that he killed "Chainulfo comiti in Albiodero" some days before his father-in-law died, was expelled and sought refuge in the church of Saint-Rémy at Reims (in Austrasia). Aega's daughter married "Ermenfred," son of NOT KNOWN. In 680 CE, Ermenfred murdered Neustria's Maior Domus, Ebroin, who ruled tyrannically, attempting to hold Neustria and Austrasia together under his rule.^[4]

Aega von Schelde is known to history as the "Major Domus" or "Mayor of the Palace" of Neustria under Merovingian King Dagobert I, who ruled first in Austrasia in 623 CE, then took Neustria in 629 CE, becoming the King of the Franks for 10 years: 629 until his death on 19 January 639 CE.^[1] He is considered to have been the last Merovingian ruler to have exercised any real authority or power. When he died, Aega and Nanthilda, the Queen mother, took the regency as his son, Clovis II, was still a child.^[5]

According to Fredegar Aega "ruled justly over the palace and the kingdom" and died of a fever at Clichy in the third year of the reign of King Clovis II (641 CE). ^[1]

The date of his appointment as Maior Domus is not known. The Chronicon Moissiacense records the death: "anno 3 regni Clodovei" of "Aega" at "Cligiacis villa" [Clichy Villa] and the succession of 2 Major Domus named "Hirchinaldus" in Neustria and "Flaucatus" in Burgundy.

D. 646 He married Gerberga, daughter of Richemeres Duke of Franconia, by Gertrudis, daughter of Ansbertus, Duke on the Moselle, who died A.D. 570, and was son of Vanbertus, Duke on the Moselle, who died A.D. 528, son of Albero, Duke on the Moselle, who died A.D. 4Q1, son or grandson of Pharamond, Duke of the East Franks, who died A. D. 470, and was grandfather to Merovaeus, ancestor to the ^Merovingian Kings of France.[2][3]
