[1]

Lucius, son of Rev. Benjamin Doolittle and Lydia Todd, was born in Northfield, Massachusetts 16 May 1728.

While not the first born son of Benjamin and Lydia, he was the oldest son to survive his father; as eldest (in 1749), he received a double portion of his father's estate.[2]

He was a soldier in the French war.

He settled in Northfield and owned a stage tavern at the north end of the main street. When the Doolittle genealogy was written, the building was occupied by Northfield Seminary, Revelle Hall, and the old sign was still preserved (location not identified), on top of which was the date 1784, and a rabbit painted at its center.

About 1745 (based on year of birth of his first child), Lucius married Sarah Smith, daughter of Deacon Samuel Smith and Sarah Smith. (Lucius's brother Amzi married Sarah's sister Jerusha.)

1751: Lucius received 137.5 acres in the fourth division of Northfield; these were adjacent to lands he received when his father died in 1749.

1753: Lucius, Amzi and Lydia [sister?] petitioned and were granted by the government of New Hampshire their lands lying out a little from Northfield, which had just been declared in NH.

1759: Lucius sold to Philip Mattoon the Northfiedl lot with barn and cowhouse.

1761: Lucius sold the old home lot to Ebenezer Pomeroy. His name appears in a list of grantees at Hertford, New Hampshire.

1763: Lucius deeded land in Wallingford, Connecticut to (prob.) Benjamin Doolittle of "W" (Wallingford?)

1767: His name appears with his two older sons at Grantham, NH.

1779: Lucius was a member of the Committee of Correspondence; is this what qualifies him for SAR and DAR?

1776, 1780: Selectman.
