The eldest son of Kirk Douglas and Diana Love Dill, Michael Douglas was born in New Brunswick on September 25th, 1944.
He attended The Allen-Stevenson School in New York, Eaglebrook School in Massachusetts, and The Choate Preparatory School in Connecticut.
Douglas later earned a B.A. in drama from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
He has been married twice, firstly to (private, still living) in 1977. Their son Cameron Douglas was born in 1978. They divorced in 1995.
His second marriage, to actress Catherine (Jones) Zeta-Jones, in 2000 has produced two children.

His film career began in the late 1960's when he appeared in some lesser known films.
His rise to fame began with his 1972-1976 role in the TV series The Streets of San Francisco.
In the late 1970's Douglas starred in several popular films including Coma (1978) and The China Syndrome (1979), which he also produced.
A pivotal role for Douglas was Romancing the Stone (1984) which he produced and starred in. This was followed by numerous other successful roles including the leading role in Fatal Attraction opposite Glenn Close and Gordon Gekko in Wall Street, both in 1987.
His fame continued through the 1990's, seing him star in several box office hits such as Basic Instinct (1992) and Disclosure (1994).
More recently Douglas has been seen in The Sentinel (2006) and Behind the Candelabra (2013), in which he played Liberace.
