Biography

Edward was born in Margaretsville, Nova Scotia, around 1832.

He married Rebecca about 1854 in Nova Scotia, Canada; there is a marriage record[1] for Edward Manning marrying Rebecca Tupper in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Canada on Jan 1854; the 1900 Census reports they had been married 44 years, for an estimated marriage year as 1856.

In 1900 Edward and Rebecca are living with their daughter Louisa and her husband in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts, United States.[2] [3]

According to Beck (Bartlett) Nally, "Edward was a mariner. Rebecca's grandfather was killed in a shipwreck. After Edward was in a shipwreck, they moved to Maine and later to Massachusetts." The 1900 census gives the date of entry into the United States as 1866.

In the 1870 Census he is listed as a Ship Carpenter in East Machias, Washington, Maine, United States.[4]

In the 1880 Census Edward is listed as Manning and his occupation is Carpenter; he is shown residing in East Machias, Washington, Maine, United States.[5]

He passed away at about the age of 69 in 1902 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. [6] He is buried in Newbury but there is apparently no headstone.

Edward's middle name, Manning, is shared with his daughter Louisa's son Hollis Manning Bartlett, and Hollis's daughter Mildred's son, Theodore Manning Whittenkraus.
