John McCamie Duckworth is said to have moved as a child with his widowed mother from Burke County, North Carolina to Catheys Creek in what is now Transylvania County.[1] (Catheys Creek was in Buncombe County until 1838 and Henderson County until 1861, when it became part of the new Transylvania County.) He and his wife Sarah Hamlin were members of Catheys Creek Baptist Church. [2] Sometime before 1870, he and his wife moved across the border to Greenville County, South Carolina, where they were still living in 1880. John McCamie Duckworth died 2 March 1887 and was buried in the Duckworth Cemetery in Catheys Creek, but the graves there were later moved to Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Pisgah Forest, Transylvania County, North Carolina.[3]
