[Genealogy of Edward Small (The Dyer Family)]
Cumberland Deeds (book 226, page 451) contains a record of the division of the estate of Christopher Dyer. The heirs are given as
Stephen A. Dyer
Christopher R. Dyer
Mercy Ann Marriner (wife of David D. Marriner)
and Daniel Anthoine as guardian for the minor children
Rebecca R. Dyer
Joshua Dyer
Betsey E. Dyer
Rebecca and Joshua are described as "of Bridgton," but all others are "of Cape Elizabeth."
This description seems to be contradicted by the 1850 census, which lists Betsey M. Dyer in
Bridgton and Rebecca R. Dyer in Portland (Cape Elizabeth).
Chistopher Dyer of Cape Elizabeth, Maine (born 1792).
Death notice from the Morning Star, April 25 1838:
"In Cape Elizabeth, Me., April 2d, brother Christopher Dyer. In 1831 sickness reduced his bodily strength very low; then he saw the need of being saved from sin, and embraced the Savior. He was baptized by Eld. John Buzzell in June of that year, and was united to the Freewill
Baptist church in C.E. Nov. 24th, 1832. He opened his home to Christians, his hall was occupied for meetings, and he often and earnestly exhorted others to live to God, and so continued, in rather
poor helath, till the morning on which he died, when, having harnessed his horse to go to town meeting, he felt faint, and attempting to go into his house, was obliged to lie down in the entry. His family and some neighbors being present, put him on a bed. Seeing them affrightened, he said, 'Don't be scared; I am dying, but all is well.' Then bid them all farewell and breathed his last. He has left a wife and family of small children. At his funeral, a sermon was preached to a large assembly, from these words, O Death! where is thy sting! O Grave, where is thy victory?"
John Marriner
