He is the son of Capt. Henry Dyer III and Elizabeth Simonton. He is a descendant on his mother's side of 1620 Mayflower passengers Jonathan Howland and John Tilley. He married c1799 at Gouldsboro, Massachusetts (now Maine) Elizabeth Leach, daughter of Eliphalet Leach and Elizabeth Cunningham; 12 children. He was a farmer at Steuben, Maine.

then moved c1817 to South Addison, Maine.

He passed away in 1858 and is buried at Dyer Cemetery in Addison, Maine.
