John, the son of James Dyer and Mercy Small was born 25 November 1793 in Truro, Massachusetts.[1]
John married Frances 'Fanny' Baldwin, daughter of Nahum and Sarah (Hinckley) Baldwin Jr. on 10 February 1819 at Mercer, Maine.[2]They had five children born in New Sharon, Maine:
Julia Freemont Dyer (b. 14 Nov 1820; d. 1861),[3] m. 1875, John Taylor (1816-1897)
Dexter Dyer (b. 17 Oct 1825),[4] m. 20 Apr 1856, Ann C. Rollins (1839-1907)
John Franklin Dyer (b. 4 Oct 1827; d. 9 May 1893),[5][6]
Geroge Eustis Dyer (b. 4 Oct 1829; d. 1893),[7] m. 27 Jan 1866 at Belgrade, ME, Betsey Ann Littlefield (1844-1919)
Isaac Small Dyer (b. 1 Feb 1833; d. 1909),[8] m. 25 Dec 1868 at Rome, ME, Harriet F. Watson (1853-1911)
John Small Dyer served as a Musician in the Army during the War of 1812. He enlisted on 12 September 1814 and was discharged on 26 September 1814. He served in Capt. Daniel Baker's Company, Lt. Col. David McGaffey's Regiment. He died on 7 February 1844[9]John is buried near his wife, Fanny, in the New Sharon Village Cemetery in New Sharon, Franklin, Maine.[10]
