!MILITARY-DEATH: DYER FAMILY HISTORY; Am. Gen Research Inst.; Heritage Press, Wash, DC 1978;NOTE: Private in a Maine Unit
On July 6, 1749, Samuel Dyer, fisherman, of Falmouth, for 200, bought a house and twenty-five acres of land on Barren Hill, from his father, William Dyer. How long he lived there does not appear; but on Nov. 7, 1797, Samuel Dyer, of Lewiston, sold for $333.33, to Samuel Fickett, of Cape Elizabeth, the same house and land, adjoining land of Christopher Dyer, at Barren Hill, that he "bought of Wm Dyer July 6, 1749."
Two children of "Samuel and Thankful Dyer of Parpooduck" were recorded; probably there were others. (Descendants of Edward Small)

Title: John(5) Billings of Deer Isle, Maine
Author: Harold Ward Dana, A.B., M.D., of Brookline, Norfolk, Mass
Publication: NEHGR, Vol. 97, October 1943
Abbreviation: John(5) Billings of Deer Isle, Maine
Note: Originally from "Genealogy of William Billings", Frank Billings, M.D., n.d., published about 1931.
NOTE: Looking through this article about John Billings, I see only a reference to Mary Dyer who married John Peter and had a son in 1828. Relevance?
NOTE: Family Tree Maker is an offline program. The CD perhaps has some relevant information, but is rendered irrelevant by virtue of being offline. Perhaps relate page number of the volume cited.
NOTE by Dee D'Errico - Family Tree Maker is not an offline program. It is a piece of software originally made by Ancestry.com. The CDs were published by Genealogy.com or Broderbund. They are no longer sold and are only viewable on older Windows programs,
like XP and those before XP, as well as older FTM programs (before 2011). Ancestry sold Family Tree Maker to Software MacKiev; and, their latest version is FTM2017 with a further upgrade recently made. However, FTM no longer has the ability to view these old CDs. I own an old XP computer which I hung on to after buying Windows 10 so that, among other things, I can still view these old CDs, of which I have many in my personal library. Furthermore, when I uploaded my GEDCOM in Feb 2010, Samuel Dyer did not have any
parents entered, only a wife, Thankful Delano, and daughter, Elizabeth. If anyone wants a page number, perhaps they should look under the "Changes" tab and see who it was that
entered the source and send them a message. As for myself I am going to remove my name from this profile.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
It's just that, when very famous ancestors are involved, it's rather important to have solid evidence that others can confirm.
The trouble I'm having is with geography. Did he live on Cape Cod and near Portland, Maine, at the same times? (Falmouth on Casco Bay is near Portland. Truro is at the tip of Cape Cod.) It appears that he was born on Cape Cod and moved to Maine, but the timeline seems confused and is not helped by the name Barnstable in both places. If he settled in Truro, why were his children recorded in Maine? I just need to know for sure that names have not been conflated.
This same statement is made in the profile Samuel Dyer, son of William and Mary Taylor.
