William Edwards AKA Edward, Edwardes[1] Sons: Robert and William
The following purportedly from a document produced by the Glamorgan Record Office in Cardiff:
Edwards enquirers should be aware that the 1992 Edition of the IGI (International Genealogical Index) compiled by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) contains a number of entries relating to the births of members of an Edwards family at Edwards Hall, Cardiff. The Glamorgan Record Office has no original documents recording this information and even the very existence of an Edwards Hall near Cardiff has yet to be established. From the source reference - shown on the IGI against each entry - the information does not come directly from documents but appears to have been supplied by a private individual from his or her own family papers.
The same edition of the IGI also lists a number of Edwards births/baptisms at Merthyr Tydfil which do not appear in either the parish registers or in any known nonconformist chapel register.
All these entries must needs be regarded with caution until the source is revealed and the information verified.[2]
According to Anthony Christensen, author of William Edwards of Jamestown ...:
William Edwards (1588-1622) was the great grandson of Richard Edwards (1523-1567) of Somersetshire, Wales. He emigrated to Jamestown with his four sons: John, Thomas, Robert and William Edwards. His son William obtained three patents of land, totaling 2290 acres in James City County. His other sons settled in Northumberland, Lancaster and Isle of Wight Counties in Virginia. William (1615-1673) married Dorothy (possibly Withers) and they were the parents of three children: William, John and Thomas.[3]
William was born in 1588, possibly at Somersetshire, Wales (the home of his great grandfather).[3]
Children of William and his wife:[3]
William died in 1622 at Jamestown, Virginia Colony.[3] John and Thomas arrived July 1635 on the ship Ye Merchants Hope in Virginia
