  • Email from Honolulu Mayor?s office, Anne Pulfrey Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008, regarding the cane & dictionary held at the City & County of Honolulu archives:
Hi Charles!  According to records, Christopher Ano of Kapaa, Kauai presented the Mayor?s Office with a ?bamboo cane with deer horn handle and sterling silver engraved band with the following inscription: ?Presented to Hon. Joseph J. Fern First Mayor of Honolulu by his friends? ?; and a ?Standard Dictionary of the English Language, 20th Century Subscription Edition, 1906.? Both were received on or about July 1982 and were given to the Archives by the Mayor?s Office for safekeeping.
