Biography

RICHARD GREY, Knt., 6th Lord Grey, married (1st), while still a minor, MAUD LE SCROPE. She presumably died in childhood without issue. . He married (2nd?) BLANCHE _____. They had two sons. He married (3rd?) before 17 June 1426 MARGARET FERRERS, daughter of William Ferrers, 5th Lord Ferrers, by his wife, Philippe, daughter of Roger de Clifford, Knt. They had two sons, William and Edward.

Trinity 1446: "David Brounyng and John Brook, executors of Thomas Dryffeld, state that on 16 January 1428 Richard Grey, now deceased, made bond with TD in £114 2s 3d. However, he did not pay TD or his executors, and nor has his widow and executor Margaret, or Thomas Grey after his marriage to MG, who still detain the sum to their damage of £200. They show the bond in court, and the testamentary letters of TD, by which they have administration." [1]

Errors to Avoid

Incorrect husband: This profile was previously attached to John Kinge as a husband. Margaret Ferrers had no such husband.

John Beauchamp was shown as married both to Margaret Ferrers-49, born Leicestershire 1406, daughter of William of Henry of William, and to Margaret Ferrers-388, born Chartly, Staffordshire, 1414, daughter of Edmund of Robert of John. It appears that these are two different Margarets. Since Richardson, Royal Ancestors, stated that wife Margaret was from Staffordshire, I unlinked the Leicestershire Margaret as a wife. She was already graced with three other husbands, so I don't believe she'll miss John!

This does not appear to be the proper Margaret Ferrers. Please refer to the sources beow which are used by the Magna Carta Project:

It is likely that the Margaret Ferrers who is shown here as being John Kinge's wife is NOT Lady Margaret de Ferrers, Daughter of William De Ferrers, 5th Baron Ferrers of Chartley, and Philippa Clifford.

"thepeerage.com/p21345.htm#i213445" indicates that her father was William Ferrers, 5th Lord Ferrers (of Groby) and that she was married, twice, to Richard Grey, 6th Lord Grey of Wilton, and then to Thomas Grey, 1st Baron of Richemount Grey. It cites Charles Mosley, Burke's Peerage and Baronetage, 107th edition, volume 2, pages 1665-6.

A Margaret Ferrars, daughter of Sir Edmund Ferrars of Chartley, married John de Beauchamp, 1st Baron Beauchamp of Powick, Knight of the Garter, before 1434; "thepeerage.com/p11861.htm#i118610" cites The Complete Peerage of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom, Extant, Extinct or Dorman, Vol II, p47.

Other than on this site and ancestry.co.uk, I can find no reference to John Kinge married to Margaret Ferrers. Any additional contributions would be gratefully received.
