Civil War, 1st. CT. Cavalry; Enlisted 05 October 1861; Distinguished Service

From "The Fish Family in England and America" (1948) p. 308, no. 2071 [1]: COL. WILLIAM S.9 FISH (Charles8, Sands7, Nathan6, Nathan5, Samuel4, John3, Alice2, John1), cavalry officer, son of (1989) Charles and Esther (Williams) Fish, was b. at Stonington, Conn., Aug. 25, 1833, and d. at Glasgow, Scotland, Apr. 10, 1879. He may have been on duty for a time at Glasgow, as his son Edmund also d. there. He was a Colonel of Cavalry (1st Conn. Cavalry) during the Civil War. He m. Hortense Desire Gallup, dau. of Palmer and Desire (Be(a)ll) Gallup, Sept. 14, 1856. She was b. Sept. 29, 1836, and d. Oct. 12, 1902, at the home of her son William, at Roseville, Newark, N. J.

  • 2072 Charles Palmer10, b. Oct. 4, 1857. He was a man of integrity and business ability. He m. Fannie Park, dau. of Capt. Ledyard and Fannie (Burrows) Park, and d. at Brooklyn, N. Y., Jan. 13, 1892, leaving a dau. (2072 1/2) Alice Pauline11, who m. Sabin S. Russell.
  • 2073 Helen Hortense, b. July 2, 1861; d. Oct. 19, 1862.
  • 2074 William Louis, b. Dec. 13, 1865; m. June 12, 1895, Edith Covert Barnett; lived at Roseville.
  • 2075 J. Hamilton, b. Nov. 14, 1868; d. July 17, 1885; drowned in Mystic River.
  • 2076 Edmund Livingstone, b. about 1870-74; d. Nov. 21, 1874, in Glasgow, Scotland.
  • 2077 Walter Tower, b. Feb. 21, 1876. He was m. Aug. 23, 1897, by Rev. L. B. Codding, to Ellen A. J. Cheney, dau. of Flavius Cheney. They lived at Mystic, Conn. Children:
  • (2078) Louise Hortense11, b. May 4, 1899; and
  • (2079) Marguerite Ellen, b. May 31, 1904.

Burial Place: Fish Cemetery, Groton, CT [2].
