John Foote of Royston (this profile) and his wife Helen Warren are currently considered to be the earliest documented ancestors of Nathaniel Foote, one of the first settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts and Wethersfield, Connecticut. Quite a number of disproven genealogies exist.

THEREFORE, DO NOT CONNECT JOHN TO PARENTS

OF NEW, HIGH-QUALITY EVIDENCE.

Biography

John Foote of Royston was born about the year 1530 in the town of Royston, Hertfordshire, England. He owned a small manor house along with some land in the town. John was the father of Robert Foote of Shalford, and the Grandfather of Nathaniel Foote the Settler. John died before January 1558/59 in Royston, Hertfordshire, England. Parish records show that in the year 1548 John was married to Helen or Ellen Warren (Waryn) the daughter of Richard Warren and Alice Jenway in Hertfordshire, England. She was born about 1529 in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, England. Her death was recorded at St. Leonard, N/E Chapel London, England.

John and Helen had four children: Robert and John, and daughters Aves or Avis (Alice) and Elizabeth.

John Foote died before 18 Jul 1558. When his undated will -- of John Foote of Royston, Cambridgeshire, England, tallow chandler -- was probated, "[h]is will revealed that he had a wife named Helen, sons Robert and John, and daughters Aves or Avis (Alice) and Elizabeth." The will also alluded to the testator's brother Foote, first name not stated and his two older children.

• He left to the church of Royston, 20s;
• To wife Helen, all lands and tenements in Royston for life; and £80 to be divided among all the children;
• To servant Maud Smythe £6/13/4 to her marriage;
• £3 that my brother Foot oweth to his two eldest children;
• To wife's brother Richard Warren the younger and to her uncle John Jenawaye of Stoone, 40s each;
• To wife the rest;
• To son Robert a goblet, feather bed and bedding;
• To son John Foot a silver salt, feather bed and bedding;
• To Aves Foote and Elizabeth Foote, daughters, each three of the best spoons, bed and bedding;
• All the remainder to wife named executrix.

Witnesses

• William Meede, citizen and grocer of London;
• John Jenaway,
• Nicholas Warreyn of Bassingbourn
• Richard Warreyn of Bassingbourn.

Foote-2152 and Foote-43 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife, same death, son Robert belongs with the other children. Name is John, not james

Thank you for raising this Anne. The profile James Foote-2152 was originally created as a father for John Foote-43. Then he was disconnected, and incrementally changed to become almost identical to John Foote-43, including now being married to the woman who was once linked as his daughter in law.

If the parents of John Foote-43 are indeed unknown, then merging away this corrupted profile would be appropriate.

Hello, this is a 5star profile. I believe the following irrelevant content should be deleted. If project agrees, please delete.

Please remove the spurious reference to a coat of arms noted as "under G2G discussion". What is documented is that one of this John Foote's grandsons served as "Lord Mayor of London" during the Cromwell period, but his knighting was a non-inheritable title. Coat of arms is bogus 19th century story; in any case there were no male heirs to Sir Thomas Foote.

Should the marriage date be changed from abt 1549 to 1548 since his bio states parish records show he married Helen in 1548?

Sources need to be cast into a single format; page-number references from within the text would be a good thing, if someone has time to put in the work.

And remove the "Baron of Stockport" as well, yes?

Foote-269 and Foote-43 appear to represent the same person because: (Repeating comment made on Foot-269 profile)

This profile seems to be a conflation of Sir John Warren, Baron of Stockport, and John Foote, this profile's current son; it should be stripped of its bio (no real info in it, and easier than afterwards), and then merged into Foot-43 See this discussion: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/331574/foote-mess-english-ancesters-of-nathaniel-foote?show=331665#c331665

Thanks!

There is a missing generation here- it says Helen Warren Foote and John Foote are the parents of John Foote married to Helen Warren Foote.
