Biography

Elizabeth Fort was the daughter of Frederick Fort and Deborah Ostrander. She was baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, New York, on 15 April 1753.[1] Her birthdate is calculated to be 7 February 1753, from the age given in the inscription on her gravestone.[2]

Elizabeth married Jacob Kimmey in about 1770. They resided in Bethlehem, New York, and raised a large family.

On 20 December 1772, "Jacob Kidny and Elisab. Fort" witnessed the baptism of Elisabeth, daughter of Mathys Boom and Rosyntje Zeger, in the Reformed Dutch Church in Albany.[3]

In about 1796, Elizabeth Fort (wife of Jacob Kimmey) was listed as a member in full communion in the Bethlehem (Albany County, New York) Reformed Church. [4]

On 18 March 1798, "Jacob Keminey and Elizabeth, his wife" were witnesses to the baptism in that church of Elizabeth, daughter of John Kimmey and Jinny LeRoy.[5]

She died 12 January 1838 and was buried in the Kimmey family burying ground in Albany County, New York.[6] The inscription on her gravestone, recorded in 1934 by Col. William Hannay, identifies her as the wife of Jacob Kimmey and gives her date of death as 12 January 1838 and her age at death as 84 years, 11 months, and 5 days.[7]
