Research Notes

No burial record found for Jean Baptiste Fortin.

Jean Baptiste Fortin is not listed as deceased at the marriages of his children, but neither is he explicitly listed as present. Some records list Jean/Jean Baptiste Fortin as brother, the rest do not specify a relationship; nor is Jean Fortin listed first as would be expected for the father of the bride/groom.

Nosorigines lists Jean Baptiste Fortin’s death as 8 Feb 1770. The actual burial record reads “ Louis Fortin capitaine died 8 Feb 1770 at the age of seventy-five years...”. [4] Jean Baptiste was not known to have used the name Louis; there doesn’t seem to be a Louis Fortin associated with this burial record.

Louis Fortin capitaine was listed as the deceased husband of Genevieve Belanger on her burial record 7 Nov 1774. [5] PRDH does not list Genevieve Belanger married to Louis Fortin. The only other Fortin-Belanger match, Michel Fortin-Genevieve Belanger, died in 1806 and 1802 respectively.
