Biography

John Foss was the eldest child of John Foss and his wife Mary Berry. Please note that Mary Berry did not have a middle name. Her name appears in documents only as Mary. John's birth date is uncertain but is believed to have been around the year 1660. This was based on a 1729 deposition in which he said he was 69. His parents lived at that time in Portsmouth. The area would eventually be called Sandy Beach and then Rye. In the deed will of his father, written in 1710, John was given land in Greenland. John appears to have had two wives known only by their first names, Mary and Susannah. John's death is said to be 5 April 1752. I don't know where this comes from, if you do let me know. In 1722 Isaac Foss son of John was baptized in Greenland. I believe this is the Isaac who moved to Chester. [1][2][3]

Marriage

John Foss and his first wife, Mary X, were married in Greenland, New Hampshire, by 1699[4]
