Robert was born in 1587. He passed away before 1624.
[1]
Dorcas (b. c. 1600) was married to a Mr. Foster, prior to her marriage with Bartholomew Hoskins (of unknown origins but speculation attempts to attach him with the Hoskyns of Harewood in Herefordshire ... not to be confused with Hertfordshire).[2] She had two children with Robert Foster: Robert and Richard.[3]
Warner (1971), states that the husband of Dorcas was a Richard Foster, but he doesn't cite this claim.[4] Based on onomastics, some other researchers thought that Foster's given name is "Robert."[3] But both given names have been refuted:
"information has conclusively shown that ... Richard Foster was transported by his step-father, Bartholomew Hoskins, ancient planter. Bartholomew had married Richard's mother, Mrs. Dorcus Foster, widow of two children, in England. We do not know the first husband of Dorcus Foster Hoskins, but it was not Sir Robert Foster."[5]
His wife's identity is also in question. Some seem to believe she may have been from the Isham family, and have variously called her:
Dorcas Ann Isham; or
Mira Isham
but for the most part it's speculation since to date, there really is no documentation to prove this.[3]
What is PROVEN is that Foster's son Richard (b. abt. 1619), sailed on the ship "Safety," from London to the New World in August of 1635 at the age of 16.[6][7]

Note that the date of birth for Mira Isham (b. 1587) is not valid for this Robert Foster (see Dorcas' profile for sources on Isham's birth). The only dating that we have for his wife Dorcas, puts her date of birth around 1600. Her second husband Bartholomew Hoskins was b. abt. 1600/1.

Let's add Mortimer to his internet list of given names! Just Kidding! Genealogical humor. But seriously. This man absolutely must be detached from Dorcas Foster Hoskins as her husband is unknown. Ancestry family trees with zero sources are not valid per wikitree guidelines.
Foster-28578 and Foster-355 appear to represent the same person because: they share the same spouse, Dorcas (Isham) Hoskins, and the same son, James/Richard Foster.
Forster-1484 and Foster-355 are the same UNKNOWN Foster. ... Merge into FOSTER. There's no proof for Forster of Durham or Surrey. Unproven speculation (based on onamastics) has tried to name him both Richard (in the first place)... and Robert came up some time later...
Forster-197 and Foster-1786 appear to represent the same person because: Same person, but don't know correct last name at birth. Family eventually became Foster.
Cheers.
