Biography

Mary was born on March 13, 1687 in Sandwich, Barnstable, Plymouth. She was the daughter of Lieut. Edmund and Sara (Mayo) Freeman. Mary's birth is hand-recorded in the birth registry of Sandwich, Massachusetts Bay along with the births of several of her siblings, quoting for Mary: "Mary Freeman the daughter of Edmond Freeman and Sarah Freeman his wife was born the 13 day of March anno domini 1687."

In Roser's Mayflower Births and Deaths, Volume 1, section "Brewster," p. 232, Mary Freeman is noted wife of Samuel Hinckley II and mother of Samuel Hinckley III. Mary Freeman, subject of this profile, is generation 5 in direct lineage of William Brewster, Mayflower Passenger. [Note: As laid out in Roser's Mayflower Births and Deaths, Volume 1, the Brewster Lineage continues as follows: Mary Freeman (5), p. 225; who is daughter of Lieut. Edmund Freeman (4), p. 225; who is son of Mercy Prence (3), p. 214; who is daughter of Patience Brewster (2), p. 175; who is daughter of William Brewster (1), p. 175.]

As per another source with duplicate vital data, namely Swift's Genealogical Notes of Barnstable Families, section "Hinckley," p. 40, quoting: Samuel [Hinckley], [born] 24th September 1684, married Mary, daughter of Edmond, and grand daughter of Major John Freeman. His [Their] children born in Harwich were Seth, Dec. 25, 1707; Shubael, March 15, 1708-9; Samuel, Feb. 12, 1710-11; Mary, Feb. 12, 1710-11, died March, 1710-11; Edmond, Nov. 20, 1712; Reliance, Nov. 21, 1714 (this date is doubtful)....She is recorded as the eldest child, date probably 1704. Samuel Hinckley and his wife were dismissed from the Harwich to the church in Truro in April 1719.

In Biography for Edmond Freeman, therein transcribed in his Will is mention of his daughter Mary Hinckley with her married name. In her father Edmund's Will settled on February 12, 1717-18, quoting: "And to Mary Hinckley another of sd daughters the sum of two and forty pounds nine shillings & four pence." And again in her mother's (Sara's) Will executed on March 26, 1736/37, quoting: "I Give and bequeath [ ] to my Daughter Mary Hinkley I Give my bible....I Give and bequeath to my Six Daughters to be Equally divided unto them all my Wearing Cloths whatsoever viz: that is to Say [ ] to my beloved Daughter Mary Hinkley one Sixth part yr [there]of..."

Mary married Samuel Hinckley "of Hadley" about 1703 per vital data presented in MacKenzie and Rhoades'sColonial Families of the United States of America, Volume II, section "Freeman Family," p. 285 (source below).

In Roser's Mayflower Deeds and Probates, quoting "Samuel Hinkley of Brunswick, ME, to Mehitable Hinkley. <Cumberland Co. ME Deeds 2:34> ...16 Mar. 1757, Samuel Hinkley to Mehitable Hinkley...the tract of land in Brunswick on which I dwell...as soon as God shall be pleased to remove me and my dearly beloved wife Mary Hinkley by death and not before. Rec. 15 Apr. 1762."

Mary died after March 16, 1757 because she is mentioned as being alive in her husband's deed to Mehitable Hinkley dated March 16, 1757, this deed referring to land located in Brunswick, Province of Maine, on which he (Samuel) and Mary both live (in present tense) on the said date of deed.

Samuel Hinkley, also in same above source, gives land for a meeting house in Brunswick ME...26 May 1759. Rec. 3 Aug. 1769. <Cumberland Co., ME Deeds, 6:349>

Samuel, Mary's husband passed away in Brunswick in June 1760. It is unknown if he died a widower or not. Children (Hinckley) born Harwich (first 6) and Truro (7-11):[1]

Freeman-5810 and Freeman-1104 appear to represent the same person because: Hi. I created Mary Freeman Hinckley (5810), working up through my ancestors, before I noticed yours (1104). They are definitely the same person. Can we merge? I've already pointed Mary's descendants to the 1104 profile.
