James Freeman was sentenced to seven years transportation for highway robbery. He arrived in Sydney aboard the ship Alexander in 1788 as part of the First Fleet.
By 1792 he was living with Mary (Edwards) Freeman, and with her, had two daughters.
His occupation in Musters was given as labourer.
In the 1828 Muster, he was described as a pauper and was living with Thomas Miles at Richmond.
Birth
What is known is that James was born in Hertfordshire, but the records vary between Watford (his place of conviction), Great Gaddesdon, Hemel Hempsted and Kings Langley, but sometime between 1766 and 1769.
Death
Probably due to transcription errors, his date of death is either 28 January or 28 June 1830 in Windsor, New South Wales.
Burial
James is most likely buried in St Matthew's, Windsor burying ground in an unmarked Pauper's grave.
