Biography

Mary "Polly" Fry is the daughter of George Peter Fry, Jr. and Keziah Mallory (Adkins) Fry. On December 7, 1807, in Giles county, Virginia, Mary married Reverend John Lucas, son of Willliam Lucas and Elizabeth (Price) Lucas. [1] Mary and John settled on Big Creek, in Logan county, Virginia. John was the first Baptist preacher mentioned in the county. [2]

Mary (Fry) Lucas has a sister named Keziah. She also names her first daughter, Keziah after her mother and her sister. John's birth is recorded as well as some of the children of Mary and John, in the Logan County Vital Statistics [3] as follows:

  • Sherod/Sherrod Lucas, born 1810, married Lucinda (?nee) and has son he names Patterson on December 23, 1856
  • Charles Lucas, born 1820, married Katherine Kawood, has son he names William on July 25, 1849
  • Ralph Lucas, born 1820, married Nancy Godby and has a son, Ira C. Lucas, born 1838, a daughter Mary Fanny Lucas, born April 11, 1846, and a son, Fry Lucas, born 1856

Other children, not appearing on the list cited above are:

  • David Price Lucas, born circa 1814, married Amanda Blain, who has a son he names William in July, 1850 and at least six other children
  • Kesiah Sarah Lucas, born 1819, married Burbus Clinton Toney
  • William R. Lucas, born 1825, married Emily Fry, daughter of John Fry and Catherine (Snodgrass) Fry
