Sarah Fugate was born about 1760 in Shenandoah, Virginia Colony, daughter of John Fugate (1735–1824) and Sarah McCarty (1743–1802).
Sarah (12) married William Bolling (15) (born on January 9, 1757 in Chesterfield, Colony of Virginia; son of Reverend Benjamin Franklin Bolling Sr and Martha (Phelps) Bolling) in 1773. Their known children were:
- Louanna Lucinda Bowling (~1780–~1820)
- Sarah Bowling (~1794–~1850)
- James Bowlin (1796–1867)
- George William Bowlin (1801–1863)
