"GAINS, EDMOND Box 40 Pack 871. Probate Judge Office. Abbeville, S.C. I Edmond Gaines of Newberry Dist. being in perfect sense and memory. I lend to my wife Susannah Gaines the use of all my estate both real and personal during her widowhood for her support, maintenance and education of my children during their minority. At the death of my wife, my estate shall be equally divided between my children, if any be decease, their heirs if any shall take the part of the parent. I will and desire that my honored father Henry Gaines and my two brothers Richard and Henry Mayo Gaines shall make such division among my said children as shall appear most just to them. I appoint my honored father Henry Gaines and my two brothers Richard and Henry Mayo Gaines executors. Dated 18 May 1802. Wit: Larkin Gaines, Richard Gaines, Robert Gaines. Signed: Edmond Gaines. Proved on oath of Robert Gaines before Talo. Livingston O.A.D. on this 21 Jan. 1809. An inventory was made 23 Nov. 1809 by Edward McGraw, Wm. (A) Arnold, Jordon Mosley. Negroes named Jim, George, Frank, Delpha, Cloe and child, Fanny and three small children. Admr. bond. We Suckey Gaines, Richard Gaines, Henry Gaines and William Ware Esq. all of Abbeville Dist. are bound unto Andrew Hamilton Esq. Ord. in the sum of $10,000. Dated 1 Nov. 1809. To Richard Gaines Senr. and Suckey Gaines (now Perret) and also Perry Perret who intermarried with Suckey Gaines. Whereas Robert Gaines has applied to me for a citation to the admr. and admrx. of the est. of Edmond Gaines, You are to appear before me on the 20 Jan. next to show cause why the est. of Edmond Gaines can not be settled. Dated this 13 Dec. 1828. Moses Taggart Ord. Abbeville Dist."
