Thomas Gamage was born about 1404[1] in Coyty, Glamorganshire, Wales[2] to William Gamage of Coety and his wife Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Rodborough.[3]
"The proof of age of Thomas Gamage, son of William Gamage, taken on 10th January 1430 stated that Thomas Gamage was born at Rogiet and was baptised at Rogiet church. It also said that Gilbert Gamage was the father of William Gamage and grandfather of Thomas Gamage."[4]
Thomas married Jonet, daughter of Sir Gilbert Dennis, and they had two children:[3]
Jane, m Roger Arnold
John, (1) m Margred f. Morgan; (2) not m a daughter of Hughes of Waterton
The Lordship of Coety (also Coity) came into the family through the marriage of Sir William Gamage of Roggiett, Gwent to Sara de Turberville. "The Gamage succession was not however easily achieved for in September 1412, ... William Gamage assisted by Sir Gilbert Denys (d.1422) of Siston, Gloucestershire and formerly of Waterton-by-Ewenny, ... besieged Coity for a month."[6]
William Gamage, father of Thomas, died in 1419.[7]
Conflicting Dates
The Wikipedia article cites the marriage of Sir William Gamage of Roggiett, Gwent to Sara de Turberville and appears to ascribe the beseiging of Coity Castle in 1412 to him. However, Bartrum shows that the Sir William Gamage of Roggiet who married "Sara f Payn Turberville" was Sheriff of "Gloucs" (Gloucestershire) in 1325.
Bartrum has William and Sara Turberville as the grandparents of William of Coety (d 1419) and his wife Mary Rodborough, who were the parents of Thomas Gamage (b 1408) m Jonet Dennis, daughter of Gilbert Dennis.
Other sources confirm that the 1412 siege was undertaken by Thomas's father, not his gr-grandfather.
Wikipedia also says that Gilbert Denys had two daughters who both married a Thomas Gamage and that Matilda was the mother of an heir named John. That and other information in Wikipedia needs more research.
"WILLIAM GAMAGE of Rogiet , was sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1325. He m. Sarah, fourth daughter of Payn Turberville, kt., of Coety, and thereby forged the link with that Glamorgan manor. By the extinction of the co-heirs of Sir Payn's brother, Sir Richard Turberville, Coety eventually fell to the descendants of Sarah Gamage. GILBERT, son of William and Sarah, died [1382]... It was Gilbert 's second son, ( Sir ) WILLIAM GAMAGE , who succeeded to Coety, at the age of 30, on the death of Sir Laurence Berkerolles in 1411."
This account agrees with Bartrum. However, Bartrum has wife as Jonet Denis, while this source says that William's heir Thomas m Matilda:
William "d. in 1419, and in 1421 his lands were granted to the earl of Worcester during the minority of his heir, Thomas (aged 11 at his father's death) by Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Rodborough. THOMAS GAMAGE, who m. Matilda, daughter of Sir Gilbert Dennis, and their son, JOHN, have left little trace of their existence. The latter m. a Welsh heiress, Margaret, daughter of Llywelyn ap Ieuan Llywelyn of Radyr. ... John Gamage's son, MORGAN, m. Eleanor, daughter of Sir Roger Vaughan of Tretower (see p. 1,000)."
Janet Ariciu also has a collection of information about these Gamages - see her page on William, son of Gilbert de Gamage and Lettice Seymour.
From sources so far, it seems only Bartrum names Thomas's wife as other than Matilda. And one source names her father as John Dennis (see p 9, Descendants of John Gamage of Ipswich, Mass).
Another source for non-Matilda, a footnote in the Wikipedia article:
[9] See the will of Sir Gilbert Denys in which he names his da. Joan "wife of Thomas Gamage" as his executrix. Line 12: "Ordino et confirmo Johnam filiam meam uxorem Thom. Gamage..."National Archives, PROB 11/2B Image Ref:413/285. Sir Gilbert's biography, History of Parliament Online, says he named as executor of his will "his daughter Joan, wife of Thomas Gamage (a kinsman of his former lieutenant)."
The phrasing bothers me - "a kinsman of his former lieutenant". If the "former lieutenant" referred to is the William Gamage that Sir Gilbert teamed up with to besiege Coity Castle, then wouldn't the biographer have written "the son of his former lieutenant"?

The profile for Matilda Dennis-199, daughter of John Dennis and Jane Dabernon was detached as his wife. Thomas Gamage, son of William Gamage and his wife Mary, daughter of Sir Thomas Rodborough, was married to Jonet Dennis, daughter of Sir Gilbert Dennis. (See Bartrum's Gamage 1.) Bartrum also has Thomas's birth as c 1408, so I changed the birth year for this Thomas from 1384 to 1408. Noland-165 21:00, 17 June 2015 (EDT)

Gamage-102 and Gamage-9 appear to represent the same person because: Even though DOBs are off on these profiles, this is part at least three generations that align very well. One line is well sourced and the other is unsourced sourced. This unsourced line seems to need to go be merged into the well documented line.
Wikipedia entry for Gilbert Denys says dau. Jane by first wife m Thomas Gamage, but was too old to marry this Thomas Gamage (b 1408), as she was adult in 1422 (executrix of father's will). The article then says dau. Matilda died 1422 (when "husband?" Thomas was 14?)
Larry - I did the removal based on Bartrum. Then found support for Matilda in a Wikipedia article on Coity Castle. I added the info to the profile. I'm going to leave Jonet as mom for now, but I'll add Matilda back as a wife. Cheers, Liz
Larry - Do the Ancestry links have support for this marriage & Matilda being mother of Joan? (I'm not a member, so can't see what the links are to other than one link to a non-public member's tree.)

The other wife Janet Dennis you have wrongly linked was the wife of a different Thomas. Joan Denys was the daughter of Gilbert Denys. She was the executor of her dad's will in 1422 so she was born at least in 1404 or earlier. https://books.google.com/books?id=bDlKAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA60&lpg=PA60&dq=joan+denys+thomas+gamage&source=bl&ots=_RAy3_nEzH&sig=ACfU3U1BCdk4PGaih7vNPmj8VDnknTF1jQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwij8ueN0_vxAhVTZc0KHeu1DYY4ChDoATAIegQIFBAD#v=onepage&q=joan%20denys%20thomas%20gamage&f=false
Thomas married to Matilda Gamage was born about 1408. Clearly there were 2 different Thomas Gamages.
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_Denys
Bartrum (http://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/bitstream/handle/2160/6255/GAMAGE%201_746.png) shows Thomas, son of William & Mary Rodborough as born c 1408 & married to "Jonet f. Sir Gilbert Dennis" (and Thomas & Jonet as parents of Jane m Roger Arnold & John m Margaret f. Morgan).
I can't find anywhere that Thomas b c 1408/father of John & Jane, married a Matilda (Dennis or otherwise) b 1388.
Can I remove Matilda as his wife and mother of Jane m Arnold?
