Charles was in the 16th regiment of the Maine Infantry in the Civil War. He enlisted as a 2nd lieutenant on August 14th 1862 and and discharged on June 10th 1864. He reenlisted with a promotion to Captain on the same day and was discharge on May 11th 1866.[2]
Charles was buried in Garcelon Cemetery[4] in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine, United States with a death date of May 12th, 1935.
