John Garey(Gary), Sr was the son of Edward Garey, Sr., & Phebe Holden, he was born in Lunenburg, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA on August 25, 1761, he Married Ruth Hatch on Nov 25 1785 in Walpole, Cheshire, New Hampshire, USA. Which is just east across the River from Westminster, Vermont.

By 1790 members of both the Hatch & Garey families had removed to Westminster Vermont with their children, where they remained for nearly 50 years, before pushing west again.
