Biography

“They have been at a great feast of languages and stolen the scraps.” - William Shakespeare. My favorite quote, ever. If I were a color I would be cobalt blue. In tense situations, I try to diffuse the tenseness with humor (sometimes this approach works, sometimes not). When it rains I feel calm and restive. When it snows I am an ecstatic child expecting a snow day (living in Canada I am ecstatic often). I am happiest when I am doing something, anything, outdoors. People in my family have had names like Goolie and Nimrod (the last one handed down for generations). I thrive when I am helpful to others. I thrive when I am problem-solving. I am a Carolinian at my core and I am deeply rooted in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains where I grew up. If you cut me I would bleed the sound of bluegrass music.

My Genealogical journey

As a Child, my mother, grandmothers, and grandfather would often tell me about my family. Who we were, where we came from and how our family came to be. As a teen I was given some unpublished papers by a Hunt cousin. I scanned them, as teens do, but I kept them. Years later I went back to them and entered the information into Family Tree Maker. Soon after I started my hunt, pardon the pun, in earnest for the rest of my family.
Over the next few years I spent time researching and looking and finding and not finding - you know how it goes. I found I was constantly one step behind another researcher working on one branch of our family. I left notes for him, I emailed him, I did everything short of going to his doorstep to get him to "share" or to point me toward this or that. Not a word. Not a single word did I hear from this researcher...UNTIL he published a book. Oh I got an email from him then, wanting me to purchase his book and I did.
I am all about open source. The Laptop I am currently working on is Linux. When I look for information on line I am accustomed to finding exactly what I want only to find it will cost me money. I have to pay money to see information about myself. There is just something wrong about that. I stumbled upon WikiTree by accident and I fell in love. With the concept, with the openness of the people, the ease of it (once you get in up to your ankles) and the depth of it. WikiTree is liberating and confirms my faith in one simple thing; Genealogy belongs to us, the descendants.

Digital Afterlife

In the event of my untimely demise I want to be sure that none of my hard work on WikiTree ends up having to be deleted. While I fully intend to be around to manage all my profiles for the next 50 years or so, in the event of my sudden death I hereby give permission for all of my private profiles to be transferred to any of my family members or to any of the other wonderful WikiTreers who have collaborated with me. My own personal profile will be left to Eowyn and Julie to tend and weed and... (I plan to haunt the WikiTree servers once my body has left it's earthly bonds).

Hi Megs,

Are you ready to go down another rabbit hole? I hope so. Great to have you on the team again! Looking forward to another fun weekend. I am helping out Debi and Tabor. I edited the team page and did a G2G post on the treehouse page like Tabor did. I added it it to our page in the top paragraph, I can't figure out how to get the chat to the far upper right side of the team page. I am not familiar with it. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. This is what I am sending to each team member. We do have two new members.
