Biography

Isaac Geer (III) was born 23 February 1740/1 to Isaac Geer Jr. and Martha Morgan in Groton, Connecticut.[1]

He first married Mary Leeds, daughter of Jedediah and Elizabeth (Morgan) Leeds. As Sarah, their eldest daughter, was born in 1765,[2] and Isaac, their eldest son, was born about 1766,[3] we can estimate their marriage around 1763.

Mary's father's will, dated 1784 in Groton, left to the "heirs of my eldest daughter Mary Geere, deceased," £15:0:0 lawful money one year after my decease.[4] Isaac's cousin James Geer remembered that Mary died in 1782, leaving 10 children.[5]

Isaac married, second, Esther Gallup, daughter of Benadam and Eunice Gallup,[6] by whom he had one more child.[5]

Isaac's will, dated 23 November 1783 in Groton, witnessed by Phineas Hyde, William Chapman, Park Allyn, named:

  • wife Esther
  • two youngest sons, William and Luther
  • two youngest daughers, Anne and Prudence
  • son Isaac... when he shall arrive at 21
  • four sons Ezra, Nathan, William and Luther, each when they arrive at 21
  • daughter Sarah Brewster
  • daughter Elizabeth Hewitt, year after my decease
  • four daughters Mary, Martha, Anne and Prudence, when they arrive at 18
  • two daughters Mary and Martha their beds
  • n.b. Martha should be brought up by my wife until she arrives at 18

It was proved 25 December 1783 by the three witnesses. The widow Esther refused to accept the legacy and refused executorship.[7]
