John Gerard, Gent., of the New Hall in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire[1][2] was the son of Thomas Gerard, Gent., and his first wife, Grace (maiden name unknown)[3][4]
Family
John married Isabel (maiden name unknown) on 16 February 1607/8[1] at Winwich in Lancashire, England.[5] ( See Surname below)
There's been speculation that Isabel was a step mother to Thomas Gerard according to comments on Gerard-1379 because they didn't name a daughter Isabel. No daughter attached to this profile. Were there any?
Isabel died after 3 April 1632. Both John and Isabel "were parties to a 1632 conveyance with their son, Thomas, involving several parcels of land in Ashton formerly possessed by John's late father, Thomas Gerard." The date of the conveyance was 3 April. [citation needed]
John was living at Warrington in 1641. And on 21 September 1649, "he granted Thomas Haselden and others deeds of feoffment of Newhall Estate",[1][7] so he died after that date.
Death & Legacy

Timeline

Research Notes
Surname :See the Research Notes on Isabel's profile about the "Wenwick" surname Lewis gives her. Our Royal and Titled Noble and Common Ancestors gives marriage date as 16 February 1608.[5]
Richardson does not give birth/death dates or locations for John Gerard.[3][1][2] Lewis does not give specific dates, saying "born circa 1585" and "died after 1649" and using "at of" before the locations given (born "at of New Hall, Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire..."; died "at of Lancashire, England".[9]
Born: 4 Oct 1585, New Hall, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire, England[citation needed]
Find a Grave: John Gerard, has the children of Thomas Gerard and Francis Moluneux listed. They are the wrong children for John and Isabel. (Minus Thomas Gerard born 1608[10]
Reliabililty: The Magna Carta Project does not recommend using Richardson's 2nd edition of Plantagenet Ancestry, published in 2011, when Richardson documents the same person in his 2013 Royal Ancestry or 2nd edition of Magna Carta Ancestry (also published in 2011). The Project classifies Lewis's database as "Reliable with Conditions" - the condition being that information sourced to reliable sources needs to be checked against the source. Information sourced to Richardson needs to be verified against what Richardson published in Royal Ancestry or Magna Carta Ancestry, 2nd edition. See the Project's Reliable Sources page for more information.
Jane as Mother: John's father, Thomas, married twice. His first wife was Grace, his second was Jane. Richardson shows John's mother as Grace,[4] although the profile for Jane (married after John was born c1585) had been attached as his mother (replaced 27 July 2019).

Gerrard-495 and Gerard-29 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate profiles of his father have been merged. Frances as wife still needs to be detached, but that doesn't affect the merge, so these profiles can be merged now too. Sources indicate that this family/this timeframe are "Gerard" (one "r").
I've detached Jane as his mother, but wife Frances needs to be detached also. This John married Isabel (maiden name not known). The Gerrards who had Molyneux connections were a different family... I haven't found a Frances Molyneux except for Frances Gerard who married Richard Molyneux - see biographies of her husband, her father, and her brother posted by History of Parliament Online.
John's profile says he is the "'youngest brother' of William 3rd Baronet of Bryn" (accessed 26 July 2019).
William is the son and heir of Thomas Gerard, 2nd BT, and brother of Frances, a nun, according to Thomas's biography posted by History of Parliament Online (accessed 26 July 2019).
I'd like to merge the duplicate Johns (to be John Gerard), but their mothers don't match. I intend to detach Jane (married 1688) as mother of John (born 1685). Also, Richardson has John the son of Thomas & his first wife, Grace.
Source for John Gerard-29 (1585-1641), Gent., of the New Hall (in Ashton-in-Makerfield), Lancashire. He married 16 Feb. 1607/8 Isabel _____. They had five sons, Thomas, Gent., Marmaduke, (Footnote 4) William, Francis, and Richard.
Footnote 34: Marmaduke Gerard, of Warrington, Lancaasire, had two daughter, Winifred, born 1639, and Bridget, Born 1641, who were transported to Maryland by their uncle, Thomas Gerard, in 1658 [see Skordas Early Settlers of Maryland (1968).
